If you are not sociable probably, you might be wondering how some people get to have many people around them all the time. Some of them even get invited to all the events that happen locally.
How to be More Social
Instead of being envious, here are a few tips that can help you be sociable and always have people loving your company.
Smile to People
This is the simplest way to attract people. When you smile, you look more confident and approachable. Even when you talk to colleagues or acquaintances, learn how to smile at them. You will be amazed at how many friends you can make by just smiling.
Take Better Care of Yourself
If you are happy with how you look, you will be more confident. You will have a higher self-esteem which will help you meet new people. Always dress smartly. This will attract more people to you.
Don't Ignore People Around You
If you think that others ignore you, try being nice to people who you interact with everyday and you will be amazed at how friendly they might be. Whether it is the assistant at your local glossary store or a workmate, take the time to say hi and ask them how they are. The response you will get from the people you are nice to will encourage you to be more social and welcoming.
Go Out and Meet People
You do not expect to make friends or test your social skills if you keep to yourself all the time. You need to go out and mix with other people. Plan to attend events such as dance parties, weddings and church functions. You will be able to meet more people this way.
Do Not Limit Yourself to the People you Know
When you go out, you will never make new friends if you are always in the company of the people you know. As hard as it might be at the start, walk up to strangers and start a conversation. In most cases, the first few minutes are usually the hardest but after that, you will be surprised at how much fun you can have when you decide to interact with others in the event.
Be a Fun Loving Person
People will want to be around you more if you make them happy and you are easy to get along with. Learn how to crack jokes and make people comfortable around you. This will have them looking forward to spending more time with you.
Be Concerned About Other People's Welfare
When you empathize, people are more drawn to you. They know they can trust and rely on you. It is easier to make friends if you are not self centered but rather let others talk about themselves.
Do Not Stick to a Routine
If you are always doing the same things everyday, your chances of meeting new people will be limited. Plan to go to a different place for lunch or interact with different people everyday in the office.
Learn New Social Skills
You will feel more confident if you have social skills that can help you interact with others. If you have to, learn how to dance and how to conduct yourself in public. This will come in handy if you go to a party or any other social function. The dance floor is one of the best places to meet new people and make friends.
Be a Positive and Honest Person
You need to conquer the fear of meeting new people in order to be sociable. Be positive about the whole experience. Remind yourself of all the positive things you might get if you decide to allow more people into your life. Also, be truthful. If you lie about your life or exaggerate some facts, you will not be able to hide it for long. When people find this out, they might not want to be around you. It is true that what you give is what you get in return. If you want to be sociable, do not wait for others to approach you, make the first step. Be nice to people around you. This will in turn make them want to spend more time with you. Also, take time to invest in the new friendships you forge. This is by calling or visiting them now and then. They too will want to do the same for you.
